Environmental Coordinator

We are seeking an Environmental Coordinator specialist to work for our client who is a Tier 1 mining house located in the Northern Bowen Basin. The position commences January 2019 for an initial 6-month contract with possibility of extension.
This position plays a pivotal role in coordinating and overseeing environmental operations to ensure regulatory compliance and permit renewals.
Duties to Include:
  • Coordinate and oversee environmental operations to ensure regulatory compliance and permit renewals;
  • Oversee waste disposal and treatment programs;
  • Ensure that industrial operations are in compliance with local, state changing regulations;
  • Perform regular site inspections for environmental compliance;
  • Stay updated with new developments in environmental policies and regulations;
  • Provide assistance and job training to team members when required;
  • Identify root causes of environmental risks and development migration plans;
  • Follow and enforce environmental health and safety procedures;
  • Work with management to schedule periodic maintenance and upgrade activities;
  • Identify areas of improvement to reduce environmental damages and waste;
  • Maintain complete and clear documentation for environmental operations;
  • Develop hazard control programs to reduce contaminations and accidents;
Hiring criteria:
  • Tertiary Qualifications in Environmental Discipline;  
  • 2 years Environmental Officer experience in Resources or Mining industry (preferably Coal);
  • Demonstrated experience contributing to a team of professionals to deliver against set targets;
  • Experience developing and implementing solutions to complex environmental issues and facilitating continuous improvement in performance; 
  • Ability to understand functionality of business systems and extract relevant data for business purposes;
  • Track record in driving continuous improvement;
  • Ability to use ArcGIS or similar mapping programs;
  • Experience with contractor management;
